It is the week to celebrate all the small businesses that strive to bring consumers the goods and services they need to live, provide, and thrive.

For some of us this is our dream job and work, for others it may have come from a necessity to survive and thrive, and still for others they may have fallen into it because it seemed like the next best thing to do! The stories of how entrepreneurs rolled their way into a small business way of life are probably many and unique to each individual small business owner and operator.

Here is a little History and Purpose on National Small Business Week (NSBW)!

NSBW was initiated under the leadership of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBA was created in 1953 to support small businesses through loans, contracts, and guidance.

NSBW has become a week to recognize American entrepreneurship and started in 1963, after a proclamation was awarded by then President John F. Kennedy. This week is meant to honor the bold and brave contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners to the economy and to building prosperous livelihoods for themselves and their communities.

The goal has remained the same since 1963 to celebrate the vital role that small businesses play in the American economy, including job creation, innovation, and community building.

Here’s What You Can Do To Support and Recognize Small Businesses This Week!

  • Shop locally – online and in store.
  • Investigate what small businesses in your area are having sales or offerings with purpose – e.g. you buy a product, and a portion of proceeds are being given to a community need/center.
  • You recognize a small business you have used in a post on one of your social media platforms.
  • Use a service you have not used before from a small business that has a unique service or something you have been wanting to try. For example, we are a consulting firm that provides leadership education and training to individuals and organizations. Sign up for one of our leadership workshops or start a 1:1 training for a limited time for your own professional development.
  • If you have a favorite small business that you frequent or know personally, take them a cup of coffee/tea to start their day and some flowers for their desk to wish them a great week.

President Barack Obama’s meaningful statement regarding small businesses says it all for the spirit of the American entrepreneur –  “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the cornerstone of our communities.”

If you are looking for a consulting firm that collaborates with, provides presentations on, and gives great implementation support for:
